SMART Board Response
i enjoyed the presentation about the SMART Board, it was a bit familiar to me because it is similar to the tablet PC programs we used in high school. I like that the SMART Board provided templates and specifically catered to teachers. While meeting with my group to talk about our project we found that there were some difficulties. We had to realign the mouse twice, the board we used worked through a projector making it difficult present without blocking the projection. The help program on the SMART Board was very useful and it allowed us to used the board more easily. I enjoy the SMART Board but it seems like it could get frustrating having to deal with technical issues. Also the board is extremely high making it difficult to reach certain things if you are short (e.g. young children)

Yeah, the height was a real problem. I do wonder about that. Heck, Cassandra had to get on that chair a lot, and she's no child. Maybe we'll have to factor in plans for a stool for the kids, and also being right there to hold onto them in case of accidents. Although that sounds kind of dangerous, in I-shall-sue-you central. We shall have to think about this, indeed we shall.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure there's a way to adjust the height of a smart board. Also with a true smartboard the problem of a blocked projection wouldn't be a problem. But you bring up some good points with the technical issues becoming frustrating.
ReplyDeleteYeah the projector version of the smart board seems iffy to me. I think the stand up version is a much better idea. Adding the projector is just adding a whole other way for there to be problems and a whole other piece of technology to deal with.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Steph, for your comments about the similarities between Smartboard and tablet PCs. Could you elaborate more about this?
ReplyDeleteOn tablet PCs, each student can add information on an individual basis. Smartboard learning is based on building together and taking turns. Which one is more effective in allowing for individual expression? Are both alike? Why or why not?
Also, please respond to other blogs.
Prof. Glick :)
I also want to hear what type of activity you think will work well on the smart board or on tablet PCs. Since you mentioned that tablet PCs were used in your high school classes, do you think PCs are better used for the high school level? Foe me, the smart board seems to be targeted for the younger kids. it seems to serve better for the collaborative work among that age of kids .
